Barf bag ads

July 26, 2006

According to a CNNMoney Article, U.S. Airways will begin to sell more advertising space…space which will be on the back of their barf bags.

Passengers “can’t open the seat back without seeing the sack itself or removing it inadvertently,” airline spokesman Phil Gee told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, adding: “A little color won’t hurt it.”

The paper said the move made sense for U.S. Air, which was the first airline after Sept. 11, 2001 to charge passengers for meals and sell ad space on tray tables and the little napkins that come with drinks.

So U.S. Air thinks that by charging for food and allowing companies to buy ad space throughout the plane, including the barf bags, that they will be able to offset the cost of rising fuel costs? Really? I don’t know about you, but I don’t really notice the bags on planes. Additionally, I personally have never thrown up on a plane, but I would assume that should you have the urge to spew due to motion sickness and are scrambling to get the bad, then the LAST thing you would do is inspect the bag and read a colorful ad…

“Say, now that looks like a good product. I think I will look into it after I proceed to vomit into the bag that the ad is on.”

And Lord knows that you don’t want to examine the add AFTER you use the bag…clealry terrible crappy the idea needs work. Seriously, what kind of company would possibly want to advertise on the bag of a vomit back? I mean…besides maybe those that sold breath fresheners…
